Health Screenings
The nurse will be completing health screenings on 7th and 8th grade students in January and February. The nurse will be following DHEC recommended screenings for the 2011-2012 school year. These recommended screenings will be 7th grade vision and 8th grade height and weight—BMI’s. If you have a 7th grader, encourage them to always wear their glasses or contacts to ensure the most accurate results. All screenings will be confidential.

7th Grade Students taking the SAT for the Duke TIP
All students planning to take the Scholastic Aptitude Test for the Duke University Talent Identification Program at Gregg Middle School should plan to be at Gregg on Saturday, January 28, 2012. The address is 500 Greenwave Blvd, directly behind Summerville High School off of Orangeburg Road. Students may begin arriving at 7:45 a.m. The test will begin at 8:30 a.m. Keep in mind that being admitted to the test will take some time, so plan to be there well in advance in order to get settled and prepared to take the test. Come to the lobby area at Gregg and look for the RMSA table to sign in. Students will be dismissed around 12:45 pm. Please have someone there to take you home at this time. Gregg Middle School asks that parents please park in the parking lot when picking up students and to wait outside of the building for students to be dismissed.
A practice booklet should have been sent to all of the students to help them prepare for the SAT. We would encourage you to take the necessary time to complete the booklet. We will be providing a brief workshop prior to the SAT. This workshop will take place during school hours the week of January 16th. We will be discussing basic test taking tips to alleviate anxiety; this will not be a test prep session for the SAT.
When you come to the testing site, remember to bring your pink SAT Admission Ticket, your ID ticket from Duke, a calculator (check the booklet to determine what is acceptable), and pencils. Students testing at Gregg will NOT need a photo ID.
We hope this has answered any questions you may have about the logistics of this test. If not, please call Mrs. Story or Mrs. Familia at 873-3610. We wish you much success as you take your test!
Artist in Residence
At the end of January, Rollings School of the Arts welcomes our Artist-in-Residence, sculptor Julie McCraney-Brogdon. She will be working with core art students as they work from models to create full, standing, figures in clay.

Congratulations!
The administration, faculty, and staff of Rollings Middle School of the Arts would like to congratulate our 46 South Carolina Junior Scholars! These 8th graders scored a 50 on one or more areas of the PSAT. This year we had over 100 students qualify to take the PSAT. Well done, 8th graders!

Attention 8th grade families!
High school registration is right around the corner! Seems like yesterday that your children arrived as brand new 6th graders! It has been our pleasure to have your students as part of the RMSA family the past few years. Please read this informational sheet about the Individual Graduation Plan (IGP) and Registration info.
Add your own pictures to the RMSA yearbook!
Upcoming Shows by The Flowertown Players.
Three popluar books will be turned into live action performances by Summerville's own Flowertown Players. The Cay, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, and A Christmas Story will be performed over the course of the next few months. These performances provide a wonderful opportunity to combine a passion of reading with a passion for the theater, and best of all, it's local! We encourage you and your children to take part in both the text and live action versions of these classics.
